Notes:

I am a classically-trained, all-round amateur musician from a musical family. I began playing the ‘cello and violin alongside my father and brother at the age of four. After getting started with the local Suzuki violin school I took lessons locally from Howard Davis, Fellow of the Royal Academy of Music (FRAM). I started to learn the piano with another FRAM, soon after.
From age eight to thirteen I was a chorister in the choir of St John's College, Cambridge. Meanwhile I continued to study the violin with Howard Davis and piano, keyboard harmony and composition with a local teacher (FRCO, ARCM) and performing artist. At thirteen I won a full-fees Music Scholarship to the King's School, Canterbury where I studied the violin with Clarence Myerscough (FRAM) and composition with Alan Ridout. I also studied piano and euphonium, attended residential courses with Pro Corda, (the National Association of Young Chamber Music Players) from 1980 to 1984, and played with the Essex Youth Orchestra (1985, 1986)
While studying Modern Languages at Edinburgh I played violin semi-professionally and taught my first two violin pupils. After graduation I decided not to pursue a career in music but I have continued to teach on and off and kept my hand in as an amateur player (The Corinthian Orchestra, London Rehearsal Orchestra, Oxford Sinfonia, Oxford Chamber Music Festival Players' Network, etc.).
