Ability Levels: Beginners to Intermediate

I've been playing bass and guitar since 1979, and providing guitar tuition for much of that time (currently providing guitar tuition and repair in Torfaen / Gwent South Wales. Many of my students are aged 40+ guys who finally want to become good at playing after having not given it much time before.

I use the plectrum, fingers and slide. I like open G and D tunings with slide for the sounds of Elmore James and Muddy Waters. I like playing in major and mixing it with minor, diminished and major / dominant 7th.

I've played guitar and bass in bands in Texas, Michigan and England / Wales, and know how to help people with their live performances in bands.

I qualified as a teacher in 1995 and have been in the teaching profession since then - and trained people to become teachers through Gloucestershire University and associated teacher training academy; I know how to structure effective flexible courses for individual purposes.

In my one-to-one and group music tuition sessions, I get you to do lots of work - more play, less chat. You'll become disciplined and you will find and develop your own style as your confidence and skills grow.

You'll soon reach a point where you can express yourself through music - where it has 'feel' and is not just going through the motions.

Students like how I teach, because I build each session around their interest of the day. I accompany them while we play so that there is musical structure and real application to practice the skills learned. I've found that being creative with what you've learned is highly effective and rewarding.

I help you understand and find your way around the fretboard. Your confidence and ability will increase as we work on building your solo phrasings and rhythm feel.

Learning guitar develops your dexterity, your mind, your cognitive abilities, and actually helps to prepare for employment and become more effective at problem solving, organizing, interpersonal skills and articulating. Plus, it's great fun and incredibly enjoyable.

While you build on your music with me, we can even look at your guitar setup and see where we can get the best from your instrument.

My trainees receive low-cost guitar setups and repair - I am a trained guitar repairer through luthier training.

CALL ME. I look forward to working with you on this great musical journey, and sharing styles and interests.
