Mrs Maureen Mclaughlin

I studied piano at the Junior Department of the Royal College of Music.
I have a degree in Performance and Music History from Manchester University.
I have a PGCE and I have taught music at a secondary school for several years.
Instruments: Piano
Genre/Style(s): Classical
Light popular
Ability Levels: Beginners to Advanced

I particulary enjoy teaching the piano to adults. I have realised that there are many adults who would like to learn the piano, or resurrect a forgotten skill from their childhood, but feel a bit intimidated by the idea. I have an encouraging approach, and understand how nervous pupils can be when they first start their lessons - it's quite normal! From my experience, learning music can be a joyful and rewarding pastime whatever your age or level of ability, and my pupils all enjoy their lessons and can see the progress they are making.

I always encourage pupils to discuss their progress with me and I try to adapt the lessons to suit individual tastes as well as exploring the wider repertoire. Most of my pupils study a mixture of styles from Classical to light popular and jazzy styles. I encourage a good technique from the beginning. This may include some scale practise and exercises.
