Hello! I'm a full-time professional singer and multi-instrumentalist originally from Edinburgh and now based in London. I enjoy singing, playing and teaching many different styles of music, from opera to classical crossover, jazz to pop, folk to musical theatre.
In my lessons I aim to prepare the student with a good foundation in technique in whatever style they choose to sing or play.
I am a recording artist in jazz, classical-crossover and folk/americana music and a session vocalist/musician with over 20 years experience (starting as a young Cosette for Cameron Mackintosh's Les Miserables at age 9). For 4 years I was signed as an artist with major label Universal releasing 3 classical albums with them following my solo debut jazz album. I have sung, played and orchestrated on dozens of soundtracks for film, TV and games including Shaun The Sheep, The Sims and most recently Danny Boyle's film Yesterday. I have also sung with bands including Radiohead for their album A Moon Shaped Pool.
I trained in jazz, classical and folk music in my early teens with full scholarships at music schools St Mary's Music School (as a chorister) and Purcell School of Music and subsequently went on to study at King's College London with vocal and composition tuition at the Royal Academy of Music, gaining a BMus (Hons). I can offer a real insight into the music industry in addition to passing on valuable information about vocal/instrumental technique and guiding you through improving your skills and experience.
I have been teaching privately for over 10 years as well as leading youth workshops and choirs and teaching once a week as the head of Voice at established music school World Heart Beat Music Academy. My experience as a full-time chorister in Edinburgh's St Mary's Cathedral gave me an understanding of the young developing voice and issues in technique specifically related to choral and group singing. Having consistently achieved Distinction in ABRSM examinations in Voice, Guitar, Piano and Music Theory, I am also able to lead a student through examinations successfully. I am also very flexible and happy to work on music in a less formal way, helping the young and older student alike in realising their specific goals and pursuing a passion and interest in expressing themselves musically.
I can teach both vocalists and instrumentalists but I can also offer help with music theory, composition, songwriting and music technology and can offer students the chance to record at my home studio or practice microphone technique using my equipment.
