Learn within the comfort of your own home - I come to you!

Hi my name is Tom.

I am a 26 year old graduate from the Institute of Contemporary Music Performance in London. I am based in Latchingdon, near Maldon and Chelmsford.

My aim is to get you to where you want to be as a player and musician - whether it be strumming a few chords, playing a lightning fast guitar solo, or learning complex jazz harmony and theory!

I am a friendly and outgoing individual, and to give you some idea of what I've done in the past here are the highlights of my musical career:

Andy’s Rock School – November 2005

For my work experience at secondary school, I spent 2 weeks as an assistant to a private guitar tutor in Maldon, Essex. This involved helping him to organise some lessons, teach some students, and setting up equipment for lessons. I also performed in some showcases to promote Andy’s Rock School, one of which was sponsored by Ashdown Engineering. From this role I gained knowledge of how a private teaching practice is run, and also how lessons are taught in schools, in this case New Hall School in Chelmsford.

Private teaching – February 2008 to the present

Following my work experience, and after having settled into college I started my own teaching practice. I have taught students between the ages of 5 and 75, and I have gained experience of how to plan lessons, how to recognise various learning styles and how to use different teaching methods. I have taught beginners, intermediate students and advanced players. I have mostly taught guitar and ukulele, but I am also able to teach music theory and sight reading along with other aspects that don’t involve playing. I can also work from a prepared course pack such as the Rockschool grade books.

Whatnext Project organised by Bigga Fish – June – July 2010

I took part in a project called “Whatnext,” which involved bringing musicians from different schools in London together, to create original tracks and play them at Somerset House as part of an opening act for N–Dubz. The project also involved us playing at Lovebox festival in Victoria Park in London, on a small stage opening the Gaymer’s Cider stand. From this experience, I learned how to work with others to create new material, how a professional concert is managed, the procedures that go into performing at such an event, and also how to put on a good performance in front of a large crowd.

Performing as part of an unpaid session band – August – November 2010

Following “Whatnext,” I started playing guitar for one of the singers called Enrico Delves, who also took part in the project. This involved me learning his material, arranging the parts for guitar, then performing the songs live with him at various venues. From this I gained knowledge of how to arrange parts for guitar, specifically keyboard and synthesizer parts in this case, and how to play hip hop / r n b songs accurately. Also, I gained experience of how different venues operate.

Jesus Christ Superstar Musical – 22nd – 24th July 2010

“That’s Life” original Rat Pack Musical – 9th – 11th September 2010

I took part in two musical productions organised by the Stage One Theatre Company, and performed at the Kenneth More theatre in Ilford. The shows were unpaid, but the proceeds went to charity. This involved me learning the songs, working with a musical director, reading the pieces of music, and working with other musicians and actors.

Playing with an original band “HeKz” summer 2011 – present

I currently play with my original band “HeKz”. Whilst playing in the band I have gained live experience, improved my guitar playing through learning the parts, and improved my general musicianship. We have toured extensively throughout the UK, from Southampton to Edinburgh and everywhere in between, and have also played shows across the water in Holland, with more European dates planned for the future. We currently have 2 full length albums out, the second having been sold in HMV, and online via Amazon and itunes - We're currently working on the third!

Playing with the jazz quartet "Four Farthings" Summer 2012 - present

From this band I have learnt how to work in a quartet, and the advanced theoretical and technical concepts found in jazz. This is something totally different to anything I have previously done, and being part of this band is helping to make me a more rounded musician.

Playing with "The Buckshaw Bucket Band" - 2014 - present

Country and barn dance band, providing the music for barn dancing at weddings / parties / social events. This is a fantastic band, again pushing out of my comfort zone and making me a better player. I am privileged to work with some of the best folk and country musicians I know!

Working as a teacher at Allegro Music Chelmsford - 2013 - present

At Allegro I also teach guitar, ukulele, and mandolin to students of all ages and musical backgrounds. Everyone has a different goal, and it's a joy to help them achieve it.
