BA (Hons) Music, majoring in performance
Instruments: Cello
Genre/Style(s): Classical
Ability Levels: Beginners to Advanced

I started playing the cello aged 8 when Adrian Shepherd visited the rural primary school where I was a pupil. Whilst it took a year to convince my parents that I really did want to play, once the sound started to come from the cello, I found my voice. As a child and teenager I studied first with Adrian, then spent two very informative and fruitful years with Alison Moncrieff Kelly, before heading up north where I learnt for several years with Anna Shuttleworth. It was during my time in Yorkshire that I had the chance to experience the International Cello Gathering (then called The Gathering of the Clans) at Eton, where cellists from all corners of the globe joined to play together, learn, teach and listen. I attended this course for several years and played for Louise Hopkins, Melissa Phelps, and Moray Welsh. The lessons and time spent with Sue Lowe during these courses were particularly formative. I left Leeds with a BA in Music in 2005.

As a teacher, I have worked in many primary and secondary schools and colleges in East Sussex with the local Music Service. I have worked alongside Alison in Tonbridge and taught in several private schools in Eastbourne. My current teaching practise is run privately in Eastbourne. Please get in touch if you’d like to discuss lessons.
