Notes:

I am a countertenor currently studying at the Alexander Gibson Opera School in Glasgow under the tutelage of Iain Paton.

Before studying in Glasgow, I graduated from the Royal Academy of Music in the summer of 2017 where I performed in a number of roles including Oberon in Brittenís Midsummer Nightís Dream, Rinaldo in Handelís Rinaldo, and Tolomeo in Handelís Giulio Cesare.

Most recently, I had the pleasure of being a young artist at Longboroughís Emerging Artist programme. I performed as Ottone in their production of Líincoronazione di Poppea under the direction of Jenny Miller & Jeremy Silver.

Previous operatic engagements include Sorcerer in Purcellís Dido & Aeneas, Athamas in Handelís Semele, Sosarme in Handelís Sosarme, and Endimione in Cavalliís La Calisto. As a concert soloist Matthew has performed in Handelís Messiah, Bachís St. John Passion, St. Matthew Passion, and Christmas Oratorio, Mozartís Requiem, Durufleís Requiem, Bernsteinís Chichester Psalms, Vivaldiís Nisi Dominus. Matthew has had the pleasure of working with the English Concert under the direction of Harry Bickett and Robert Howarth, the Academyís Kohn Foundation Bach Cantata Series led by Iain Ledingham & Ton Koopman and the Southbank Sinfonia with Simon Over.

Before the Royal Academy of Music, I was at the University of Bristol studying a BA in Music and graduated in the summer of 2014. I also held a Lay Clerk position at Bristol Cathedral. During my time at Bristol, I pursued a freelance career in the South West collaborating with many artists and ensembles including War Horse director Tom Morris for performances of Purcellís Dido & Aeneas and Handelís Messiah at the Bristol Old Vic.

Whether you want to excel in your ABRSM examinations or want to crack that coloratura aria - I can help you! I offer 1:1 lessons to children and adults where my aims are to get you singing as musically and as comfortably as possible.

As a countertenor I can offer grounded vocal technique into the unique vocal physiology of the countertenor voice and through my experience offer an insight into how best to manage this instrument.

Not a countertenor? No problem. I can still offer good vocal technique, vocal exercises, and work with the student to maximize their musicianship.

Singing is about enjoyment and and love for the music. I am happy to tailor any lessons to the desires and needs of the student in a fun and fulfilling experience.
