Over the twenty years I have been teaching, I have noticed that the more I am enjoying giving a lesson, the more the student enjoys and engages with it too. I draw on many influences, the main one being the idea of Simultaneous Learning which has been expanded upon and championed by Paul Harris. This is where the teacher seeks to create connections between tasks and so shines a light on the musical material from various different angles. This is stimulating for both me and my students.

My students follow a curriculum to equip them with the technique, musicianship and performance experience they need either to take exams (ABRSM or Trinity) or simply to tackle the music they love. Current and former students range from complete beginner to Masters level and include those who are making a career in music together with those for whom it remains an interest.

Alongside teaching I have maintained a substantial career in performance, playing regularly with internationally recognised orchestras through which I have been part of BBC Proms, regular broadcasts on BBC Radio 3 and Classic FM, commercial recordings and critically acclaimed concert and opera seasons.
