Iím a professional Oboe and Cor Anglais performer and teacher with over twenty yearsí experience helping people of all ages and experience to reach their performing goals.
Whether youíre a young person taking your first steps, an adult returner or retirement hobbyist, a member of an amateur orchestra or band, or someone with ambitions for exam and diploma success, Iíll be glad to help.
I enjoy working with students of all ages and levels of experience who play for many different reasons.

Each student has a bespoke learning plan to meet their individual needs and goals. We decide these together.

Everyone has strengths to celebrate, whether theyíve been playing for ten days or ten years. I'll help you to do that.

Iíve taught for local authority music services and been an independent visiting teacher in the state sector. I was the visiting oboe teacher at a leading independent school for ten years and now focus on private teaching and performance.

Iím available for taster lessons, advice, consultations and regular lessons from beginner to university and conservatoire level.

I make my own reeds and am well qualified to advise about reed styles that could suit you, to adjust your reeds, and to show you how to manage them yourself.

Reeds really neednít be a problem with the right advice. Donít let what other people say about them put you off learning the oboe!

Iím flexible and can schedule lessons during the day or evening to suit your needs. Adult students and parents who work find this particularly helpful.

I have a dedicated, accessible and spacious ground floor teaching room at my home in north Worcestershire. Itís easily reached by rail and by road from the M42, M5 and M40. Parking is free and plentiful.

Parents and carers of younger students join us in the lesson and have a comfy chair and a cuppa. Itís a welcome break in a busy week, and youíll be well informed about what your child is working on.

Parents sit in with their child during online lessons. This is a prerequisite for online tuition. If you choose to learn online using Zoom, face to face lessons in the same room will be helpful for both of us periodically.

I have personal and professional experience of working with Neurologically Diverse people and am familiar with working with children and young people with dyslexia and on the Autism spectrum.

If youíre concerned about your child missing class lessons to go to an instrumental lesson, or youíd just like to be more involved with their lesson, private tuition outside school and work time may suit you.

Iím qualified to Postgraduate level in professional performance and have been working as a professional oboist and cor anglais player for twenty five years. This keeps my teaching fresh as Iím up to date on performance trends and styles, and on regional and national events and performances you might be interested to hear or to go to.

As a performer, I work with organisations including Orchestra of the Swan, The Royal Shakespeare Company, Longborough Festival Opera, the English Symphony Orchestra and the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra.

As a freelance educator, I've managed and delivered large scale learning projects for mainstream and special education settings for many years. My clients have included Orchestra of the Swan and the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. Many of the projects I've led have been funded by The National Lottery, Arts Council England and regional grant making bodies such as the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation.

I'd love to hear from you. Feel free to get in touch.
