Biography

Andrew Yiangou is a nineteen year old pianist from London. He is a second year student on the Bachelor of Music degree programme at the Royal College of Music, studying classical piano under Professor Gordon Fergus-Thompson. His love for music was established from an early age, and he studied the piano and violin under Andrew Mann since he was seven. He also studied music theory with Harry Aslanidis and piano with Michael Harvey.

Andrew studied at Gunnersbury Catholic School. He has performed at numerous school and public concerts, as a soloist, as a chamber musician in a variety of ensembles including piano trios, string quartets, orchestras, jazz bands, and as choral accompanist. He won many prizes and trophies at numerous competitions and music festivals, including ‘Jaques Samuels Intercollegiate Piano Competition’ and ‘North London Music Festival/ Emanuel Trophy Competition’ and was praised highly for his exciting virtuoso pianism, musicality and impressive, communicative performances.

Andrew has been a member of the Ealing Youth Orchestra for the last five years, playing violin, piano and keyboard at concerts in various venues in the UK including the Royal Festival Hall and on tour in Belgium, Spain, France and Poland. He performed Rachmaninoff’s 2nd Piano Concerto in rehearsals for the orchestra in 2009 and will be appearing as the soloist for a performance of Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No.1 in April 2012.

In July 2009 he also made a sensational debut in Derby, with a memorable fundraising public solo piano recital in aid of the Derbyshire Festival. At the Ealing Festival 2010 he won the Concerto Award (joint winner), and later performed Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue with the Ealing Symphony Orchestra. Andrew has performed with Lang Lang as part of the ‘Lang Lang Inspires’ project at the Royal Festival Hall earlier this year and then went on to perform at the 'International Piano Festival - Poros' in Greece during the summer receiving the ‘Prize of the Audience’ at the festival there.
