Notes:

I have always had a passion for music and am very lucky to have had the opportunity to learn to play music from an early age: I first began to learn the piano at age 6, followed by the oboe at from age 13. My family love music and have always encouraged me to persevere with my musical ambitions, if for nothing else than for the purposes of our annual Christmas sing-alongs!

Music has played a central role throughout my education, where I played in youth orchestras and continued to study music at college and in my degree at the University of Southampton. Since graduating, I have also undertaken a teaching qualification at Newman University and a Masters in Music Therapy at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

I am an experienced music teacher across a variety of settings and currently work as the music lead in an outstanding special needs primary school. I have always been motivated to teach, as I find it very rewarding to help others realise their potential and achieve their goals.

My experiences to date have provided me with many opportunities to develop my own skills as both a musician and a teacher.

I have been fortunate to provide instrumental tuition and run musical groups in mainstream and SEND school settings, as well as various music services, care homes and a USA summer camp. Each setting has provided unique challenges and varying approaches to music tuition which has helped me to develop a flexible, patient teaching style where I can be adaptable to meet the specific needs and desires of each pupil.

I build good, trusting relationships with my pupils to help to establish a positive learning environment.

I am also specialised to teach SEND pupils, including (but not limited to) individuals living with physical impairments, learning difficulties, ASD and Aspergers Syndrome and Downs Syndrome. I am patient and am able to use Makaton to help communicate with pupils where necessary.

Whether it be to work towards grades or just for fun, I am always happy to accept new pupils - I believe that everybody has the ability to play music, young or old!
