Biography

I graduated from The Queen’s College, Oxford, in 2018, with a first-class degree in music. At Oxford, I studied a wide range of topics, including historical, socio-political and philosophical branches of musicology. I was a Joan Conway performance scholar with the Faculty of Music; as such, I regularly appeared around Oxford as a recorder player and a violinist, in performances ranging from solo recitals of early music to a production of an original space-themed opera with young adults with autistic-spectrum conditions. I was also closely involved with running The Bate Players and The Eglesfield Musical Society.

I studied the recorder with Annabel Knight, and with Sarah Humphrys and Gail McLeod at the Junior Department of the Royal College of Music. Shortly after joining the RCM, I achieved a high distinction in my ABRSM Performance Diploma. I was heavily involved in RCM’s early music department, winning the Freda Dinn Memorial Prize for my contribution. I was also the recipient of the John Wills Historical Studies Prize. Performance highlights include playing the Vivaldi C minor (RV 441) and C major (RV 443) concerti with orchestra, featuring as a soloist in multiple performances of J. S. Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 4, and participating in masterclasses with Dan Laurin and Susanna Borsch.

I was also a violinist at the RCM, and I enjoy the variety that this has brought to my career. Highlights have included performances at Cadogan Hall and St. John’s Smith Square in London, masterclasses with Nicola Benedetti and Pieter Schoeman, orchestral playing under Vladimir Ashkenazy, and a performance with Bojan Cicic and The Instruments of Time and Truth.

I have taught music theory, recorder and violin for a number of years, and am excited to dedicate more time to this now that I have graduated from university.
