My approach to teaching is to listen, connect and constantly improve and develop all areas of the students technique, time keeping and notational accuracy. The student is at the heart of my focus. I feel like I have a very important role teaching in colleges and in private one on one sessions with my experience. A lot of the time you become a role model, especially in schools, so it's important for me to maintain high standards and to communicate very clearly and transfer my knowledge very carefully. I explain all aspects of my techniques and every step of my thought process when teaching, from sight reading from holding the sticks properly to layering a complex poly rhythm. The key to learning is to have fun. I pride my teaching on making complicated drumming easy by dissecting it slowly and breaking it down using my unique techniques. Every one wants to be remembered for a legacy. Mine is to pass on the knowledge I've learnt from a generation of great musicians like modern master Craig Blundell (Fr*st/ Steven Wilson/ Pendragon), Mick Avery (The Kinks) John Field (Georgie Fame) and one of the countries finest teachers Sam Brown. It's really down to the musicians who inspire me to stretch my ability and improve, my experience and qualifications has given me all the tools to become the best player and teacher I can be.
