Biography

Willow Stahlut has been playing playing music ever since her luthier father made her a guitar for her first birthday. She picked up the violin at age five and has since gained her AmusA with distinction and a bachelor of music from the Victorian College of the Arts in Melbourne, Australia majoring in jazz and improvisation. She has played in many orchestras and string ensembles in Australia as well as a countless number of bands including Nandi - an Indian ensemble, Beaudelaire - a string trio combining strings, vocals and beats, and String Theory - a flamenco/gypsy band. She has produced three CD's with another band 'the Gypsy Hot Club' and toured Australia's festival circuit for the last five years. Willow has also scored and produced the music for several short films and written music for all the ensembles she has been in. She plays guitar, mandolin, viola, percussion, piano accordion and vocals. Willow has been teaching for over seven years, and teaches a range of styles including classical, jazz, folk, Indian, gypsy, swing, bluegrass and pop. She also teaches composition, song writing, musicianship and aural training.
