Gethin Lewis

Gethin Lewis, originally from West Wales, graduated from the Guildhall School of Music & Drama in 2014. His early active interest in music and drama led to opportunities to perform with the National Youth Choir of Wales, Ysgol Gerdd Ceredigion and the Urdd National Youth Theatre of Wales at prestigious venues such as the Royal Albert Hall, Canterbury and St Davidís Cathedrals, and the Wales Millennium Centre.

As a student, Gethin played the title role in Brittenís Albert Herring and appeared at the Cheltenham Music Festival in Iain Burnsideís A Soldier and a Maker. He has recently appeared as a solo recitalist at the Llandeilo Music Festival and sung in performances of Handelís Messiah, Mozartís Requiem, Haydn Masses and Mendelssohnís Hymn of Praise as the tenor soloist. Gethin performed in the chorus of Jonathan Millerís production of Bachís St Matthew Passion at the National Theatre, the ensemble for Purcellís Dido and Aeneas as part of the Britten-Pears Young Artist Programme and was the tenor soloist for a BBC Radio Three recording of Pärtís Stabat Mater. More recently, Gethin played the role of Don Ottavio in Hampstead Garden Operaís production of Don Giovanni.

Gethin has enjoyed success in many vocal competitions at the National Eisteddfods of Wales. Over the last three years he has won the Welsh, Operatic and Lieder solo categories on more than one occasion, and has been awarded the David Lloyd memorial prize and the Eirwen Griffiths Jones memorial prize as the most promising tenor. He was also awarded the John Fussell Trust Award for Young Musicians in 2014.

In June and July of this year, Gethin appeared in the chorus for the Grange Festivalís production of Bizetís Carmen, while also understudying the title role in Brittenís Albert Herring.
