Biography

Lewis Gibbs grew up on the beautiful Gower peninsula in South Wales and took up the trumpet and cornet at the age of seven, following his older brothers into the local brass band in the village of Penclawdd. Following an early playing apprenticeship with the various ensembles of West Glamorgan Music Service and the National Youth Brass Band of Wales, he moved to London to study Music at Goldsmiths College, London. Continuing his studies at the Royal Academy of Music under Howard Snell, Bob Farley and James Watson, he graduated with an MMus degree in trumpet performance and an LRAM diploma in teaching.

Since completing his studies, Lewis has worked as a freelance trumpet player and music educator. He was an instrumental teacher with West Sussex Music Service and Sutton Music Service as well as teaching privately in South London for many years. Lewis was part of the Senior Leadership Team and later Head of Music Service for Sutton, coaching the brass sections of the local youth orchestras.

Lewis has recently moved to Devon to take up a new role as Head of Devon Music Education Hub.
