Notes:

I graduated from Birmingham Conservatoire in 2009 with 90% in the teaching section of my final year assessments. Since then, I have done a mixture of teaching, both privately and with Services for Education - Music Service. I have taught the full range of brass instruments and abilities, from the first note, right up to diploma level.

One of my passions is helping all to experience the joy of music making. To this end, in 2017/2018 I undertook a Post Graduate Certificate in Sounds of Intent to further my knowledge and experience of working with those with additional needs. I have extensive experience working with those with autism, Asperger's Syndrome and cerebral palsy, amongst other needs (including those with mental health issues): some of this experience has been using adapted instruments supplied by the One Handed Musical Instrument Trust (OHMI).

I believe that musicians should perform regularly to develop their skills and give a tangible goal. To this end, I try to give my pupils the chance to perform at least once a term and encourage ensemble attendance from the beginning of their musical journey if the instrument allows. Grade exams are also encouraged, although will not be forced upon anyone who does not wish to take them. I usually use Trinity exam board, but am happy to teach the Associated Board exams if requested.

Lessons normally take place on a weekly basis; arrangements can be made for fortnightly lessons if necessary. A diary will be kept from week-to-week that can be referred to at home when practising. I try to take a holistic approach to teaching, with exam music and technical work being supplemented by music enjoyed, and often chosen by the pupil. Group lessons are available on request. I am fully DBS checked and insured through membership with the Incorporated Society of Musicians (ISM).
