Biography

Having benefited from an excellent music education with West Sussex Music Centre in the 1980s, I went on to study for a music degree at the University of Sheffield, taking Performance and Dissertation major options in my final year.

I firmly believe that learning a musical instrument and singing are amongst the most valuable experiences a person can undertake. Musical activity is proven over and over again to be good for body, soul and mind. My approach to teaching a person to play the piano involves a broad knowledge and understanding of music through history, as well as exploration of performing styles and music theory.

I love teaching people of all ages and stages, exploring each individual pupil's passions and abilities, and challenging them to reach towards fulfilling their own potential.

As part of my continuing professional development I have pursued singing lessons since my early forties, achieving ABRSM Grade 8 and undertaking a number of professional oratorio engagements. I also sing with two Sheffield-based choirs, keeping my sightreading, listening, and performing skills sharpened.

I hold a current clean DBS certificate.
