Mr Gordy Marshall

Professional musician for 35 years.
Instruments: Drums
Genre/Style(s): Rock
Ability Levels: Beginners to Advanced

Teaching is a really important part of being a professional musician; it is an opportunity to pass on a wealth of knowledge to students. As such I have now set up my private studio with two Roland TD30s, so I can sit with students and walk them through every step of the learning process in real time. Absolute beginners warmly welcome, through to the more advanced player wanting to seriously study, or just sit and play along in the studio on two drum kits.

Learn grooves, sticking technique, limb independence, music theory, preparation for grades and exams 1-8 and GCSE, A–level. But most importantly… how to play the drums!

I have been playing drums for legendary rock band The Moody Blues for nearly 25 years, appearing on all of the world’s most famous stages and T.V. shows.

Other work includes: Jeff Wayne’s The War of the Worlds (arena tours and 2012 studio album, with Liam Neeson - Gary Barlow - Joss Stone - Ricky Wilson of the Kaiser Chiefs).

Sir Cliff Richard - Rod Stewart - Mariah Carey - Emma Bunton (a.k.a. Baby Spice of The Spice Girls), Lulu - Chris Thompson (Manfred Mann), Russell Watson - Jennifer Ellison - Jason Donovan… and many more.

West end musicals: We Will Rock You - Fame – Grease - Joseph and the Amazing Technicoloured Dreamcoat - Rent - Whistle Down the Wind - Mamma Mia - Thriller Live (The Michael Jackson musical currently at The Lyric Theatre).

Author of the critically acclaimed book Postcards from a Rock & Roll Tour - serialised on BBC radio, (published by Splendid books) Part memoir, part travelogue, it’s a candid, unexpected and often hilarious account of what it’s like to travel around the world playing to sell-out audiences, living out of a suitcase and spending days and days on a tour bus.
