Keeping Children Safe in Music is the latest in the EduCare's series of distance learning courses on child protection. The training programme uses short films to show a variety of good and bad practice examples, which will be available to watch online. It will help anyone teaching music to children gain a better understanding of their child protection responsibilities, and avoid situations that could lead to accusations of misconduct.

Joseph Perkins is a London based jazz/session guitarist, multi-instrumentalist, composer, educator and postgraduate from City University of London, BMus(Hons), M.A. with performance tuition from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. He has studied guitar with Scott Henderson, Wayne Krantz and Stuart Hall.

Joseph has performed upstairs at Ronnie Scott’s (residency), Vortex Jazz Club, The Jazz Café (supporting Terence Blanchard), BBC Radio, JazzFM and for members of the Royal Family. Session credits include The X Factor winner, James Arthur, Robohands, and playing the music of Django Reinhardt in Jessica Swale’s film, Summerland. He has also worked as a guest lecturer, teaching Jazz improvisation and assisting recording classes at City University of London. He has performed with virtuoso violinist and pianist, Benet McLean.

Joseph is a widely experienced private music tutor (St. John’s Wood) and has previous experience in the state sector as a peripatetic and classroom teacher. He has also worked with the ABRSM as a teacher/presenter and ‘Brains & Hunch – Music For Moving Image‘. As an audio engineer, he has recorded for advertisements in Russia, and in the UK
