Guy Shepherd (b. 1990) is an exciting and innovative young British pianist with a passion for delivering a fresh and dynamic approach to music. Known as a professional concert & event pianist and accompanist, composer and educator, Guy graduated from the Birmingham Conservatoire in the UK in 2012 with a Bachelor of Music (Honours) in Piano Performance, and completed his Masters degree (MMus Piano Performance) at the Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in London in 2015, under the tutelage of Victor Sangiorgio and Simon Young, respectively. Guy has taught and performed extensively in the UK, Scandinavia, Europe, Asia, Australasia and the Middle East as a soloist, accompanist, chamber musician, concerto soloist and teacher.
Previously, Guy has been a finalist in and a winner of competitions including the Saltash Music Festival in Cornwall and the prestigious Lieder Prize Song Competition in Birmingham, and has had the opportunity to perform in masterclasses presented by such internationally renowned pianists, composers and ensembles as Peter Donohoe, Gabriele Baldocci, Rolf Hind, Philip Fowke, Louis Lortie, Steven Osborne, Martin Jones, Mikhail Kazakevich, Andrew Ball, Victor Sangiorgio and The Schubert Ensemble. Some recent and forthcoming performances include Gershwinís Rhapsody in Blue with the Redditch Symphony Orchestra at the ARTRIX Theatre, Leroy Andersonís Piano Concerto in C with the Birmingham Conservatoire Symphony Orchestra at the Adrian Boult Hall, transcriptions from Coplandís Rodeo and Bartokís Romanian Folk Dances in Ulricehamn, Sweden, and solo piano recitals at St. Alfege and the Royal Naval Yard in Greenwich, London.
As a profoundly passionate educator, Guy has previously taught and performed in Sweden, New Zealand and Malaysia, having been a freelance concert pianist and piano teacher in Christchurch, and also held the position of teacher of piano and composition at the Prince of Wales Island International School in Penang, Malaysia. While in Penang, Guy presented public recitals in the POWIIS Auditorium, showcased a variety of Steinway pianos through a series of solo concerts for the Historical Steinway Tour of Malaysia and also presented piano masterclassess and coached chamber ensembles. Guy has recently completed a two year stint in the Middle East, having worked as a Music & Piano Teacher at the British School of Bahrain, and is now based and established in Bath and London.
