Biography

Personal Description:
Hello, my name is Peter. I am a piano and cello teacher living in Reading. Originally from Belfast, and graduate of Queen's University Belfast, I have tutored music in schools and privately for over ten years.

Before moving to England, I was an organ scholar at St Peter's Cathedral for three years and won the Barbour Cup at the Holywood Music Festival.

I am passionate musician and educationalist. For the past two years, I have been the Education Governor for one of Northern Ireland's largest primary schools.

Tutoring Experience:
I was a peripatetic music teacher in a number of primary schools in Belfast and Lisburn for over 5 years. All my students were successful in their ABRSM exams and have continued their studies. Last year, I completed my PGCE at Reading University. This allowed me to thoroughly how to adapt my teaching to the different learning styles of different students. It also gave me invaluable insight into how to motivate students and encourage their desire to learn (and practice!).

Tutoring Approach:
My approach to every student is different. Each student will have a different way of learning to the best of their ability. However, I take a relaxed approach with younger students as I believe pushing them too much at an early age can be detrimental to their love of music. The more a student enjoys the lessons and playing, the easier it is to encourage them to practice.
