Notes:
I am a very experienced teacher of voice and piano, having taught for 30 years. As well as one-to-one tuition I have directed choirs, notably in a capella part singing, and have entered choirs and students in local music festivals with considerable success. I have taught in secondary schools and colleges involving GCSE and A-level work.
All standards are covered from beginner to diploma, along with varied musical genres from classical opera/oratorio/lieder etc. to light jazz/musicals/popular songs. Suitable lessons can be made flexible for the amateur choral student to the aspiring professional soloist. I accompany my vocal pupils during lessons and in exams.
I also offer theory of music and aural tuition for pupils wishing to take music exams with ABRSM and at GCSE and A Level, as well as preparation for auditions for local shows, university, music college entry and other drama and music courses, including a condensed theory course for the Grade 5 ABRSM. These music exams are not compulsory, however - lessons are tuned to the individual and goals are discussed prior to starting lessons. Past pupils include professionals and music college entrants as well as amateurs singing for pleasure.
I specialise in beginner piano both children and adults who wish to learn or are returning to study. Lessons are 30 minutes long and are kept interesting, especially for beginners. I seek to help devise the most useful practice techniques for the young and for those who are pressed for time. Hour-long lessons are available for more advanced students who can concentrate for longer. Pupils are given opportunities to perform at informal pupil concerts to work on confidence building as well as performing experience.
