I am currently studying for a Masters in Performance Science at the Royal College of Music having been awarded a Bachelors of Music from the University of Birmingham in July 2014. I began piano lessons at the age of 6 and achieved grade 8 piano when I was 17. I took up the cello when I was 9 and passed my grade 8 six years later. I have enjoyed playing with many orchestras as a cellist including the Shropshire Youth Orchestra, several university orchestras and the CBSO Youth Orchestra. Having always enjoyed singing in different choirs I decided to start vocal lessons at the age of 16 passing my grade 8 after 3 years. I was successful in auditioning for the Birmingham University Singers with whom I sang at the First Night of the Proms in 2013 as part of the National Youth Choir.

Working as a private tutor I have taught the piano to young children and enjoyed the challenges presented as well as the reward of seeing my pupils improve. I have given singing and cello lessons to my peers and as part of a charity event at university I taught several people cello which they had to play solo in a concert at the end of a month. In school I was responsible for taking cello sectionals during orchestral rehearsals and helping less experienced players with the more technical aspects of the music. I have also had opportunities to work with a wide variety of ages and group sizes running Taiko Drumming workshops. These have taken place in primary schools, community centres and folk festivals among other places.

I believe that music should be enjoyable and aim to both improve the technique of the individual and the enthusiasm they have for the instrument. I have found in my experiences so far that everyone has different ways of learning and enjoys playing different kinds of music. In response to this I aim to be very flexible in my teaching style to ensure that individual styles are catered for and each person gets the best results as well as an engaging experience.
