Notes:

Shih-Yuan Chang began learning the piano at the age of four. During her studies in Taiwan, she performed in the numerous concerts and was awarded good prizes in numerous competitions. In 2002, she won the First Prize in the JVC Cup National Music Competition. In 2003, she won the First Prize in the Min-Hsiung Culture& Education Cup Music Competition. In 2005, she won the First Prize in the Friends of Kawai Piano Competition. In 2008, she was qualified for Eastman Young Artist International Competition. She was studying with Philip Martin, Mark Bebbington and John Thwaites in Birmingham Conservatoire.
After finishing the Bachelor (Honour) of Music in 2013, she will study for Master of performance course at Royal Northern College of Music. She has recently won the David Brookes Piano Competition; the Birmingham Conservatoire Piano Prize; and the Second Prize of Birmingham Philharmonic Concerto Prize.
She has also participated in master classes with Ivo Progorelich, Martino Tirimo, Andrei Gavrilov, John York, Martin Jones, William Fung, Murray Mclachlan, Mihail Kazaprevich and Steven Osborne.

She believes that music is not just about the beauty of it, but the significance and education behind it are important too. Western music is heavily influenced by religious music. As being a Buddhist herself, she loves Buddhist music (e.g. “Amitabha”).
