Learn to play drums on the same drum kit (and a quiet practice version!) I use…or your own kit. I’ve played PUNCTURE KIT live at THE BRIT AWARDS, GLASTONBURY, BBC RADIO, THE TOUR de FRANCE even BLUE PETER. I’ve used it for session recordings, solo album releases and to create professional drum and percussion loops for world class music sample providers LOOPMASTERS. I am committed to delivering honest, useful and professional information on all aspects of drumming to help you develop YOUR own unique sound. I cycle’s out with my drum kit to many schools across the UK for performances and workshops… Get in touch and I’ll come out to your home or school for individual or group lessons. Either learn on my kit, my practice kit, or your own.

You won’t need to travel or waste time waiting each week in a music school. I will come to you and teach drumming that will be applicable to your musical journey . By coming to you, it’ll also save you (or your parents) fuel!

Ah..of course drums can be loud! Don’t worry, I know all about the frustration of trying to practice in small flats and at odd times of the day. I’ve got heaps of creative ideas to solve that …and I’ll show you how I’ve overcome practice issues using loads of fun methods. The answers are simple and will definitely help you to create your own practice plan…but you gotta practice!…and think creatively…all the things that will help you become a great drummer.

I will teach the techniques and elements I’ve developed to help achieve the results needed in real life situations as a drummer…but it’ll be tailored to suit YOU and your level of playing:

• Hand and foot technique
• Time keeping
• Co-ordination
• Groove
• Musicality
• Stylistic Development…and tricks about how to create unique sounds and styles used in the music you love…whether it’s hip hip, dubstep, jungle, drum and bass, Latin, African, house, funk.

Becoming a professional drummer isn’t just about exams and disciplined practice. Although dedicated CORRECT practice is essential, becoming a great drummer is about efficient practicing of exercises that will help YOU say you want to say musically. There’s a lot of confusing stuff out there to help make you become this or that academic drummer or gain this or that music degree and exam result. Early in life, I studied piano and endured many intimidating examinations…aaargh!.. strict music theory and practical curriculums! That approach can be great for some, and there are many worthwhile lessons to be learned, but it’s not suited, needed or affordable for everybody. There are other creative and sometimes more inspiring ways to develop your potential. I chose to successfully go down that path.

I have created a very successful drumming career without following traditional learning methods. I knew what I wanted to say musically and went on a journey to develop the drumming skills to say it. I studied with Benny Greb (a master of the language of drumming), spent one year in Malawi, Africa studying traditional African drumming and have developed a wealth of contemporary professional drum recordings in genres such as dubstep, drum and bass, jungle, hip hop, breakbeat, funk and house. Of course, it’s taken lots and lots of (and continues to take) dedicated and focused practice.

All aspiring drummers have their own musical desires. I’ll help direct you to what YOU want to say and develop a practice plan that will help you achieve the sounds you have buzzing in your head.

Finally…don’t knock our jazz and bebop predecessors…learn from them and turn the lessons you learn into creating your individual practice schedule to create your modern sounds. There are loads of important lessons to learn from the greats of drumming and the roots of music…dubstep and jungle wouldn’t exist with Art Blakey or The Winstons!

Remember…We’re all in it to have fun and make the world move! Make it a journey that inspires you and you’ll be well on the way to being a unique drummer of your own that keeps the world moving.
