Notes:

Update for current Coronavirus crisis: I am ordinarily happy to either travel to you, or to teach you in my house, but am currently set up to teach online, via Zoom or any other preferred platform.

I have been teaching flute and piano for around 20 years, in a number of Independent Schools, for local music services, and of course privately. I took a Pedagogy course as part of my degree at RNCM, for which I was awarded a First Class mark. Over my years as a teacher, I have taught a broad spectrum of abilities, from beginner to dilpoma level, and as they have progressed, several have performed as soloists in their schools or local venues, auditioned for youth orchestras, and successfully applied to both Junior and Senior departments of Music Colleges.

I also work as an ABRSM examiner, and as such my teaching and exam preparation is thorough. I can also accompany pupils for concerts, exams and recordings, and I find this a useful tool in lessons as well, to develop the ear and ensemble training.

As an orchestral musician, I have also been involved in a number of education projects over the years, ranging from one-off family or education concerts in concert halls, to more long-term projects either with local youth ensembles or in schools from more deprived areas of the UK.

My skills as a performer on both flute and piano, together with my training and experience as an ABRSM examiner have only added to my abilities as a teacher; I feel I excel at fostering encouraging environments for pupils to thrive in, and am able to motivate students to perform at a high level, cope with the pressures of exams if that is their goal, and most importantly maintain enjoyment of music and their instrument.

I have taken part in Child Protection training in schools where I have been employed, and I also have a current DBS certificate.

I am ordinarily happy to either travel to you, or to teach you in my house, but am currently set up to teach online, via Zoom or any other preferred platform.
