Notes:

I am an experienced piano teacher with a thorough knowledge of a variety of music examination boards. I teach all ages and abilities from beginner to advanced. Whilst my teaching style is relaxed and friendly, the content of lessons is substantial. I think notation-reading skills are vital and I guide pupils though appropriate repertoire to develop their fluency of reading.
Most of my pupils work towards exams but I am happy to teach students who prefer to develop their piano skills without following an exam track. Similarly I am happy for students to explore their preferred styles of music and can direct pupils to suitable classical or popular repertoire.
I have prepared pupils to sit piano exams since 2001 and do my utmost to ensure students are thoroughly prepared for all sections of the exam. As I have experience in preparing pupils to sit ABRSM, Trinity College, LCM and Rock School examinations, I can suggest the board that will most suit the individual student. Before becoming a peripatetic teacher in 2008, I was a classroom music teacher and taught music at GCSE and A-level. I have therefore worked with students to prepare performances for GCSE coursework and A-level recitals. I have also coached students on their performances for GCSE and A-level in my subsequent role as an instrumental teacher.
You will find my teaching addresses theory and notation reading skills, techniques for how to use the hands correctly as well as musical expression and interpretation. These factors combined form a well-rounded pianist. Lessons are usually available in school holidays upon request.
Dedicated theory lessons are also available up to grade five standard.
