“Sue Appel taught my son violin for over three years, before he moved to secondary school, as well as teaching me, as an adult learner, the viola. Sue is a warm, generous, knowledgeable teacher who uses her considerable experience and expertise to bring out the best in people. She really encouraged Nicholas to take exams and join an orchestra and celebrated the results – making him really proud of his grade 4. With my own playing, Sue was generous with her time and use of her music, and my playing improved leaps and bounds. She really supported me in joining an orchestra, for which I am very grateful. We are extremely grateful for her excellent tuition. I have no hesitation in recommending her.”

Sue Appel has been my 13 year-old daughterʼs viola and violin teacher for the past three years. During this time Imogenʼs playing has significantly improved, both technically and musically, and her confidence has soared. She has worked towards Grades 4, 5 and 6 with Sue, gaining a merit for grades 4 and 6 and a distinction at grade 5 level. Thanks to Sueʼs encouragement, she is now a member of the Hertfordshire Schools Symphony Orchestra, the Mid-Herts Youth Orchestra, the Mid-Herts String Orchestra and the Mid-Herts String Quartet. Imogen looks forward to her lessons with Sue, knowing that she will always be warmly praised when her playing is of a high standard, but confident that Sue will invariably show her where improvements can be made if necessary. Consequently, I often notice Imogenʼs playing is not only more stylistically correct after Sue has worked with her, but that the tone she creates is fuller and more vibrant. I am very appreciative of the fact that Sue has taken the trouble to get to know Imogen well and foster a relationship of mutual trust. This has allowed Sue to tailor her approach specifically for Imogen, always pushing her to attain a higher level of performance, yet never at the expense of her self confidence. Even more importantly, she has nurtured and celebrated her innate creativity, giving her the freedom to express herself and truly enjoy the experience of playing music. Yours faithfully Nadia Bishara
