Peter was born in Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire in August 1982. His first trumpet encounter was as a baby by his father (A local Music teacher and Ex Royal Marines Musician). Whether this influenced Peter's choice in later years is difficult to say, but at the age of six, when his school gave him the chance to join some others learning to play the real thing, he was very keen to do so!
After a slow start for the first year, things started to gain momentum with a new teacher. Just before Peter's eighth birthday, a local brass band had an article in the press appealing for a new Musical Director of which Peter's father was offered meaning the opportunity for Peter to join his first brass band.
First Taste of Banding!!
After just a few weeks, Barton Town Band found itself with a new 3rd cornet player. With the determination to get to grips with “real” music, Peter soon had to be switched to individual lessons, as it was becoming increasingly obvious he was pacing ahead of the others in the group sessions. After 3 years, Peter was able to pursue higher and became a 2nd cornet player. All in total, Peter stayed in Barton Town Band up to the age of 16 finishing off becoming Assistant Principal Cornet.
