I have many years experience, both as a guitar player and teacher. As a performer I've played in a variety of groups and in a wide range of settings. I've played in groups ranging from duos, to quintets, to, 16-piece gospel bands and at events ranging from bar and cafe gigs, private and corporate parties, weddings, charity events, recitals and concerts. I play both electric and acoustic guitar.

I've been teaching guitar for 16 years and have taught a vast range of students, from beginners to advanced, young and old, and from all walks of life. As well as teaching privately, I have several years experience teaching in many different schools in the West Yorkshire area. I teach both electric and acoustic, plectrum and finger-style.

I offer bespoke teaching suited to the individual, whether it be a young child taking the traditional route and going through the grades, or an adult just wanting to learn their favourite pieces/songs for their own enjoyment. As with my guitar teaching, there is a great deal of flexibility and I can incorporate music theory, as well as songwriting and arranging if the student desires.

Teaching Style:
I try to make my teaching as well-balanced and holistic as possible, with the aim of getting my students to fulfill their musical potential. I will tailor lessons so that they learn the music they want to learn, at a level that's appropriate for them. I like to teach music theory, where appropriate, so that the student can understand what they are playing and to enable them to apply their knowledge to learning away from the lesson.

I also encourage students to develop their creativity. This could involve improvisation, songwriting, arranging or recording.

I utilise all the mainstream syllabi, including Rockschool, Associated Board, LCM (RGT) and Trinity. The particular playing style and musical aspirations of the student will determine which of these I would choose. For those students that would like to take an exam, I will prepare them fully for all aspects of the exam, and to date have a 100% pass rate.

If a student doesn't wish to take an exam, then I will use a variety of materials which could include, for example, my own chord charts, backing tracks for popular songs, or improvisation backing tracks.

The main styles I play and teach are rock, pop, blues, soul, funk, and elements of classical, jazz, folk and country. I teach various aspects of music that relate to these styles, including- chord knowledge, harmony, chord progressions, specific techniques (e.g. stringbending, double-stopping, octaves), improvisation, rhythm playing, scales and arpeggios, composition.
