Beginners to Advanced
I believe in adapting my lessons for each individual. They will be fun, and tailored to your interests. If you want to conquer performance anxiety, or just learn some chords on the guitar, I can help you kickstart your musicianship.
For the past two years I have been working in a music school in Denver, where I ran songwriting classes and workshops with university level students.
Additionally, for the past 7 years I have been the lead singer in a Folk-Pop band called Wildflowers, we were lucky enough to support artists such as Robert Plant, George Ezra and Tom Odell on tour. Several singles were featured on the Radio 2 playlist, and we completed several U.K. and American tour, and played many UK festivals including Glastonbury.
As a songwriter, I have had my songs played on Radio 2, and have co-written with many top songwriters including Gary Clarke (sing street) Mike Kershaw (level 42), Blair Machichan (Paloma Faith, Lily Allen), Tim Va de Kuel (Adele), Beth Neilson Chapman, (Faith Hill) Shelly Pool (Alisha's Attic) and many more. The lessons I learnt from co-writing have been invaluable, and I would love to pass on these techniques to other people interested in songwriting.
As a child and teenager I.performed a lot of musical theatre, so I can offer children fun and fulfilling lessons, in any style they are interested in, gaining them theory knowledge as well as performance and vocal technique.
Through teaching I have helped people conquer stage fright with a series of relaxation techniques, and also with knowledge gained through overcoming it myself.
I believe a great song or performance comes from the heart, and the most fundamental, important thing to learn, is how to make the audience feel something when you are performing. I like to work from the heart, not from technique!! So Iím more of a Janis Joplin than Mariah Carey!
Here's what you can expect from my lessons.
Start with gentle warm ups
(scales and breathing exercises)
Work on a particular piece that you are wanting to learn.
We can do any genre that you are interested in, like Pop, Rock, Folk, Disney/Musical theatre etc.
I can accompany you on the guitar while you sing, or I can create a backing track for you to sing along to for each lesson.
We will work on singing techniques such as
Projecting your voice, using diaphragm correctly, connecting with the listener/ audience.
We will also work on performance techniques such as
battling stage fright, connecting with audience and microphone technique. We will work on a new piece that you don't know, this is good for ear training and will introduce you to more music, and therefore develop you as an artist.
Songwriting Lessons -
Learn different songwriting techniques.
Learn how to approach lyrics in a different way.
Develop Hooks and Chorus's.
The main lesson will be working on your song ideas and developing them into a full song.
This can be just a little chorus that you have come up with in your head, or a full song that you feel isn't quite there yet.
If you like, over the weeks, we can work on recording your song too, as I have a microphone and recording programme that I can bring with me to the lesson. This will help you gain studio experience, like playing to a click. or singing into a microphone.
Please don't hesitate to get in touch. I would love to hear from you,
