Notes:

Through my studies at world-leading conservatoires, my preparation for international competitions and having worked professionally in a variety of settings for several years now, I have been able to hone a thoughtful approach to musical development in many ways. I believe that our development at our instruments is incredibly personal and requires a great deal of support from our teachers, mentors and colleagues, encouraging us to find ways of learning that work for us and to trust our own ideas and instincts. Some of the most important elements of my teaching are: igniting that love of music - it's easy for learning an instrument to be very technical but we must remember that it's all just music and without a love of it we will struggle to work at it! I believe we must show students the power they have to drive their playing forward - regardless of age, learning an instrument is a process which can only excel if the individual makes their own connection with the instrument and realises that their own dedication is the only thing that will lead to improvement - it's a very empowering thing! I therefore believe that a 'one way' approach from a teacher can be very limiting for a student and it is so important that they develop their own ideas and imagination through their playing. I hope to encourage the student to form their own ideas and understand that it is their work that will drive them forward - not mine.
