Children: I have been the main singing teacher at 'Crescendo' Music School in South Woodford for over 2 years now and teaching children for over a decade in different areas of London. I enjoy teaching young people (from 4-18) immensely. Am happy to prepare them for the Grade exams when teaching at a music school or to simply develop their voices and encourage their love of singing. Although I am classically trained, I am happy to do Music Theatre and even some Pop with my students, as I understand not everyone is interested in doing classical repertoire. The technique I teach however is classical 'bel canto' technique and will serve them in whatever style of music they wish to sing. A good foundation in breathing, support and phonation is essential to all singers and may avoid a lot of vocal damage in future years to come.

Adults: I am passionate about helping my students find their real voice - at whatever level they may be. Often as 'singers' we do so much to alter and manufacture what we think of as our 'singing' voice. After much personal trial and error I have come to the conclusion that only way of really communicating authentically to our audiences is by presenting your true, unique voice.

This may seem like an obvious statement to make, however, with many of my students the work I do is actually the work of 'undoing' many unhelpful habits and mannerisms which have been picked up over the years, usually subconscious ideas of what a singer is meant to look and sound like. In my experience when an artist truly touches our soul it is because they are presenting themselves plainly, just as they are, just as their voice is.

Wether at an beginner, amateur or professional level, we all have the ability to move our audience - which in my view is what it is all about. Yes, technique matters, it will enable you to sing wonderful music which would remain unobtainable otherwise, but what matters most to me is finding your real voice. A good healthy technique should enable this rather than hinder it.

If you are a beginner or a young child this will be much easier and immediate, if you have been singing for years and are not completely comfortable with your voice this may take a little longer, but if you have the patience, it is a very exciting and rewarding journey to go on.
