Mrs Natalija Japerte


Natalija Japerte was born in 1982 in Daugavpils (Latvia). She started taking accordion lessons when she was 8 years old and graduated from Daugavpils Music College where she had studied with the leading teacher of accordion, Valery Khodukin. From here she developed a passion for this versatile and exciting instrument.

In 1998, recognized for her musical talent, she was awarded a scholarship from the Latvian Government to fund her continued attendance at Daugavpils Music College. During her time at the college she gained success in many international music competitions. Most notably:
1996, Vilnius(Lithuania) - 3rd place
1997, Daugavpils (Latvia) - 1st place
1998, Brest ( Belarus) - 1st place
1999, St Petersburg (Russia) - 3d place
2001, Daugavpils (Latvia) - 2nd place.

In 2002 Natalija entered the accordion department of the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre (Vilnius) under the tutelage of Eduardas. Gabnis. She was awarded a second scholarship from the Lithuanian Government to fund her further studies. During the next four years she had continued success in both international and national accordion competitions. In 2004 when she was declared the winner of the international contest in Citta di Montese (Italy)

Natalija now lives and works in Kendal (Cumbria). She is engaged in many activities promoting and sharing her passion for the accordion. She is currently working on the production of an accredited music syllabus for the accordion which will aid future teachers and students of this wonderful instrument.
