Grade 7 distinction, ABRSM
Instruments: Violin / Irish Fiddle
Genre/Style(s): Irish folk fiddle
Ability Levels: Beginners to Intermediate

Hi there. Playing violin is my favourite thing to do. I don't tend to call it 'violin' anymore because when I was 23 I became hooked on Irish folk music, and my violin became my fiddle and my refuge the likes of The Bothy Band, Kevin Burke and De Dannan. I am a passionate, fun and lively teacher. I really would love to spread my love of Irish folk music :-) ! I actually have a PGCE from Cambridge University, though in a different subject. Musically, I got a distinction at grade 7 when I was 14, and the theory to go with it. Despite this, my preference is really for teaching folk music which has much less reliance on classical notation and more on listening. Through practice, I can teach you different Irish ornaments, such as rolls, grace notes and where to put them (though we will start with the basics first). Because I am dyslexic, once I discovered this way of playing it absolutely changed the game for me and I was able to play for much longer without getting tired. I recently decided to start teaching music in the evenings because I have a baby son and it is when my partner gets home from work. Please note, my focus is not on taking grades.
