Notes:

James Westbrook is a guitar tutor with over 30 years experience. He is Secretary of the Brighton & Hove Guitar Society and has been Guitar Section Secretary for 'Springboard (Brighton & Hove Performing Arts Festival), a charitable organization for music, dance, speech and drama since 1984. He is the author of three popular books: Guitars through the Ages (2002), The Century that Shaped the Guitar (2006, Russian language edition 2012) and An Illustrated History and Directory of Acoustic Guitars (2015), as well as co-author of The Complete Illustrated book of the Acoustic Guitar (2012). He has given lecture recitals for The Classical Guitar Festival of Great Britain, European Guitar Teachers Association (of which he is a member), and The San Francisco Conservatory of Music. James has published in Early Music, The Journal of the Lute Society, the Soundboard Journal and American Lutherie. His Doctoral thesis was at The Music Faculty, The University of Cambridge. James is currently a member of the Research staff at The University of Cambridge, Music Faculty. He teaches in Brighton & Hove. He was recently awarded a prize by the Musicians' Company in London. In his youth, he attended Master Classes with: Leo Brouwer, Carlos Bonell, David Russell, Vladimír Mikulka & Turibio Santos.
Over 30 years experiences, which included, 10 years at the Brighton & Hove High School for Girls, London Metropolitan University. I retired from teaching to pursue my career as an author in guitar history, and now I am taking on a limited number of students of all abilities. I currently Mentor and Advisor to PhD students at The University of Cambridge.
