Mr Harry Cameron-Penny

Harry is a clarinettist studying at London’s Royal College of Music. He is currently learning with BBC Symphony Orchestra clarinettists Richard Hosford and Peter Davis.

He began his musical education as a violinist but soon changed to the clarinet giving his first concert at the age of 10, playing Acker Bilk’s ‘Stranger on the Shore’. Harry was educated at Eltham College with a music scholarship before being offered a place at the RCM.

As an orchestral player he has had experience as principal of the London School’s Symphony Orchestra (LSSO), the CBSO Academy and Youth Orchestra, the LSO St Luke’s Woodwind Academy (2007) and various RCM ensembles and orchestras. He has also had the pleasure of performing in world famous venues such as the Barbican, Symhpony Hall and the Royal Festival Hall with eminent conductors such as Martyn Brabbins, Tamas Vasary and Sakari Oramo.

Chamber music is an essential part of Harry’s musical life. He is a member of the ‘Mercury 4tet’, a contemporary music group and his own creation the ‘Adelphi Ensemble’. With these he has performed at venues such as St Martin in the Fields, St Georges Hanover Square and the RCM.

Harry’s solo repertoire extends from the classical era to the 21st century and he has performed the Mozart Clarinet concerto several times with London Amateur orchestras. In 2007 he reached the last 18 televised stages of the BBC’s talent search ‘Classical Star’. He is also a Concordia Foundation artist performing recitals and working with the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital.

Alongside his classical commitments Harry is also a serious Jazz musician. He regularly plays in a quartet and will be performing with the Cid Lines Jazz orchestra in July 2008.
