Notes:

I have 25 years experience in performing live on stage with artists such as Chaka Khan, Alexander O'Neal, Imogen Heap, Gabrielle, Alison Limerick, Heatwave, Odyssey, Imagination etc, as well as producing and composing my own music for dance record labels, film, tv and multi-media companies.

I also studied composition with John McCabe, William Lloyd Webber and Susan Bradshaw and violin with Peter Turton at the Royal Academy of Music. This has proved invaluable on orchestration gigs with Willy Russell and as leader of the rhythm section on tour with Russell Watson with a full symphony orchestra and 80 piece choir in tow.

This experience of working and gigging in the real world greatly helps to expand the breadth, depth and effectiveness of my piano teaching and allows me to offer essential insight into current areas of interest and study to piano and keyboard students. Budding music professionals looking to diversify have found this extremely useful when taken in parallel with the more traditional side of piano lessons.

My piano lessons and keyboard lessons cover all styles of music, including pop, dance, jazz piano etc, but I believe strongly in developing the classical ‘disciplines’ as well, to encourage good technique, reading skills and overall well-rounded musicianship. As well as including the ABRSM syllabi in my programme, I strongly emphasise rhythmic awareness, improvisation, aural and recognition skills essential for today’s professional performer.

Piano Students are encouraged to play the piano in a relaxed and natural way, promoting good habits of posture and hand placement which are essential for continued success in effective playing.

Students of electronic keyboards are also encouraged to cover the basics of synthesizer programming, as well as some specialised techniques which have been adapted to playing them.
