Notes:

I am a passionate educator and performer looking to positively impact the lives of my students through dedicated music tuition. My guiding principle is to assist my students along their musical journey, in whatever form that may take. I have experience teaching children as young as 5, adults enjoying their retirement, and everyone in between. I have experience teaching and guiding students wanting to have a professional career in music as well. My 10 years of teaching have taken place in a wide number of contrasting teaching environments from areas of great deprivation such as the townships of the rural Eastern Cape in South Africa, to teaching students through Skype, to teaching tertiary level students at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. These environments and their respective challenges, have made me a pragmatic and inventive teacher.

I spent 2 years as the head of the vibrant and energetic string department in a prominent arts high school in South Africa, before I was awarded a bursary and a scholarship to study for my masters at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. My time as head of strings equipped me with hundreds of hours of experience teaching one-to-one lessons, ensembles, class music, group lessons, external examinations (Trinity and ABRSM), and conducting. In my Masters studies, I chose to study pedagogy modules which provided me with insight into the British school system as it relates to performance music, as well as invaluable tools for teaching vulnerable students. I have experience teaching handi-capable, as well as developmentally challenged learners and am always up to the task of problem solving in innovative ways, alongside my students.
