My love of music came from an early age, listening to my mother playing the piano beautifully in an evening as I drifted of to sleep. My Great Auntie and Grandmother were also accomplished musicians as well as my second cousin who was the leader of of the Royal Philarmonic Orchestra. As you can imagine, music and the arts was a great influence within my family.
I began learning the piano at an early age, proceeding up the ABRSM grades, entering music competitions and participating in various concerts. Singing also became a great passion of mine, where I began studying classical and modern repertoire.
I continued to pursue my ambitions to develop my music skills by being excepted for a two year course at Boston Music College. I then followed on to London College of Music where I studied a Degree in Music and also continued to develop my skills in singing and piano. I left with a GLCM degree in music, and diplomas, ALCM, LLCM in singing.
I continued on to Goldsmiths University where I took a Post Graduate Music Course in Secondary Education.
I successfully found a secondary school music teaching post at Tunbridge Wells Girls Grammar school, where my love of teaching began. There I was given opportunities to teach pupils in the classroom from the age of 11 to 18. I became very aware of each individual pupils needs and gifts. It was great to be able to run junior, senior choirs, an orchestra and instrumental ensemble groups. I arranged many concerts and took an active role in guiding pupils in theatre productions. I continued my own love of performing by singing at various different functions and events, plus participating in small vocal ensemble groups.
I began one to one music tuition outside my secondary teaching role. I took a new teaching position at Beaverwood School For Girls, Chilslehurst, where I became Acting Head of Music.
A new addition to our family arrived called Hannah. It is then that I reduced my secondary school teaching hours and began extending my one to one tuition. This has grown from strength to strength, teaching both privately and in Secondary/ Primary schools such as Sackville Secondary Independent School, Montsaye Academy in Rothwell and Hildenborough Primary School as a peripatetic music teacher.
Currently I am working at Holme Primary School and Prince William Secondary School in Oundle. In the primary schools I have guided pupils through their first steps in learning an instrument from beginners to intermediate level, following through to advanced level in secondary schools in singing, piano and electronic keyboard. It is extremely rewarding to watch a child or adults skills in learning an instrument grow. To see them gain confidence, and achieve successfully in music examination grades.
I do hope you have found my biography informative and it has given you a small window of understanding into the journey I have taken in music.
