Biography

After being given an Oboe at school, I studied this Instrument with passion and studied under Roger Winfield (Principal Oboist of the BSO) I went on to train as a Junior Bandsman at Bovington where I received lessons on Oboe and Saxophone, passed GCE Music and played extensively for 2 and a half years. This was followed by a further one year study at Kneller Hall (Royal Military School of Music) I studied there under George Morgan. I also played Baritone Saxophone in the Big Band and studied advanced theory under Maurice Miles.

I went on a six month equitation course after that (Household Cavalry) and went on to spend 22 years with The Band of The Life Guards.(That also involved playing an Alto Sax on a horse!

In this time I worked in all fields of music as Principal Oboist in the Orchestra / Led the dance band /later became Pricipal Alto Sax in The Life Guards Concert Band. We did many recording sessions for Radio/CD's/Records etc and played hundreds of concerts all over the UK/Europe/Germany/Belgium/Tokyo TV etc

I played many times for The Queen at Buckingham Palace/Windsor Castle.
On leaving, I went straight into teaching as a freelance for a year as well as studying advanced Music Theory at Bournemouth College then was offered a full time position with Dorset Music Service.
I play regularly as a Freelance Musician on Oboe/Cor Anglais and Saxes/Clarinet in Big Bands/Shows/Orchestra's as well as teach privately.
I am very patient and my pupils have an age range from 8 to 86! (a sax beginner). I prepare and enter pupils for ABRSM and Trinity Guildhall Exams including Jazz/Theory.

I am currently Principal Oboist in St Aldhem's Orchestra .
