I am a friendly, nurturing piano and theory teacher, particularly experienced in working with children and teenagers, but with the ability and resources to work with adults too. Due to my social work background and current role in pastoral care at a Primary School, I am experienced in working with children who may face additional barriers to learning (including behavioural, attention and learning difficulties) and take a flexible, individual approach to teaching, liaising with parents and carers to meet each child's needs.

I am keen that as many people as possible have the opportunity to explore music and learn to love playing an instrument. I strongly believe that it is never too late to learn an instrument, and piano is the perfect instrument to start with, as it is very visual and (generally!) logical, making it easier to learn to read music and apply it to the instrument. I also provide general musicianship and understanding of music theory, either as part of the piano lesson, or as a separate resource when there are exams to study for (for example, ABRSM Grades, GCSEs etc).

With younger children who are at the beginning of their musical journey, I use a fun and positive approach, not being afraid to think outside of the box to meet their needs, while still ensuring that they learn to read music and use good technique right from the start. With older children and adults, whether complete beginners or with some experience, I take the lead from each individual, matching the pace and approach to learning that works for them.

As I work in a school, my availability is mainly evenings and weekends, with more flexibility during the school holidays. Please do get in touch and we can discuss whether I might be the right teacher for you/your child, and make arrangements for a trial lesson.
