Hi there, Iím Jamie, welcome to my profile!

Presumably youíre interested in getting lessons on sax (or other woodwind instrument) if youíre reading this, so maybe I should tell you a bit about me and see if youíre still here by the end!

I live in Chelmsford with my wife and two kids and Iíve been working as a professional musician at the sharp end of the business for well over twenty years now. From West End shows, concerts, broadcasts and recording sessions to big bands, functions and music festivals Iíve been having a ball playing my sax across the entire globe my whole adult life.

My mission is to bring that wealth of experience to my students and, hopefully, inspire as well as educate.

My CV includes the Chaka Khan, The Temptations, The Four Tops, Frankie Valli, the Ronnie Scottís Big Band, Jamie Cullum, Incognito, JTQ, Carleen Anderson, The X-Factor, Will Young, recording at Abbie Road, Top Of The Pops, Robbie Williams, Ray Parker Junior (ďGhostbustersĒ), Leon Ware, Rick Astley, Curtis Stigers, the BBC Big Band and much much more!

Iím also heavily involved with West End Musicals - very tricky and clinical but great fun! I played on the smash hit musical Jersey Boys for the full nine year run and I currently stand in (or ďdepĒ as we call it) on 42nd Street, Motown The Musical, Dreamgirls, Kinky Boots, Book Of Mormon and Everybodyís Talking About Jamie.

Another string to my bow is writing and producing music - Iíve created professionally released tracks, recorded my own albums and done innumerable horn section arrangements. If thatís your passion I can certainly help out there too!

Whatever your goals, we can work together to achieve them, whether it be Associated Board exams, jazz improvisation or just being able to play a song youíve always wanted to perform. I can teach you from scratch or pick up from where you are now.

In the past Iíve taken on new students who feel like theyíre struggling or doing something wrong but it turned out to be a faulty instrument - very frustrating! Iíll be able to help out with your set up too and make sure youíve got the right equipment for your needs.

I teach in my sound proofed studio in my garden and I have facilities there to work to backing tracks (which can be pitched or slowed down), use a metronome, tuner and even record performances for posterity. If a book has duets in it I can record the other part and you can take that away to practice to.

I will also teach you HOW to practice - possibly the most important skill of all. It takes 350 repetitions to establish a reliable motor pattern in the muscles and nervous system of the body but 3,500 repetitions to change an old one, so you see how important it is to practice good habits!

I started my own YouTube channel in 2019, Get Your Sax Together, to help people round the world improve their sax playing and to give people a "behind the scenes" look at my life! You can search for "Get Your Sax Together" on YouTube to find me, and why not subscribe while your there?! ;-) It's no substitute for face to face lessons, but it's my personal crusade to bring some authentic knowledge to YouTube.

Iím fully DBS certified and Iím a lifetime member of the Musicianí Union. I love to teach all ages and always make music as fun as possible!

Iíve included some audio and video of my playing for you to ďvetĒ me! I've tried to include a few different things for variety. My own arrangement of Gregory Porter's "Water Under Bridges" features me playing pretty much everything!

If you're still here I look forward to meeting you and hopefully making music together! Jamie :-)
