Notes:

I teach folk and traditional music on a range of fretted instruments including guitar, tenor banjo, tenor guitar and Irish bouzouki, and on the Irish Bodhran.

Irish traditional music a specialty, other styles include old-time, Breton Fest Noz repertory, and Scandinavian traditional music.

The traditional music that I specialise in is a vernacular oral tradition and therefore I tend to avoid using notation to teach. My general approach is to teach by ear and then provide notation for reference as an aid to memory if a pupil feels they would benefit from it. This is the way I learnt traditional music, the way it has been taught for generations, and I feel it is the most effective way to get involved in a living musical tradition.
