Rik Wolland offers high quality drum tuition in the City of Salford and surrounding areas.

Having well over eight years experience as a live musician and recording artist, Rik has developed an expansive repertoire of music ranging from Classic Rock, Funk, Reggae, Jazz, Folk, Afro-Cuban, Brazilian, Experimental Rock, and Modern Rock. He also holds a 1st Class Bachelors Degree in Popular Music & Recording and a BTEC National Diploma in Music Practice.

His teaching experience is mostly in private music schools; he has taught at Clive's Rock and Pop Schools and is the resident drum tutor at Maunder's School of Popular Music in Manchester.

Rik teaches all ages and abilities from beginner to advanced. If you are just starting out then he will take you through the very basics and within weeks you will be playing several beats to your favorite songs. More importantly, Rik will ensure that you enjoy your lessons and come away feeling like you have learned something every session.

A basic outline of Rik's syllabus is as follows:

- The fundamentals of drumming; drumstick technique, positioning and posture, the names and purpose of each drum and cymbal, drums in a ensemble context, and sight reading.

- Depending on the students desires, Rik will teach 'Rock School' Grades for drums and/or start to develop the foundations of each pupils ability. This could be such things as introducing drum fills, dynamics, adding texture and so on.

- Students will also be taken through both Grade systems of Rockschool and Guildhall and have the option to take exams in which they can obtain certificates of achievement.

- As time goes on, lessons will start to move towards more complex styles such as Jazz, Reggae, and World Music.

Lessons will be held at Rik's personal studio in Salford. It is a stones throw from both bus and tram stops. If you have your own drumkit (electronic or acoustic) at home Rik will be happy to travel and teach lessons in your home (no additional charge).
