Mr Scott Chapman

Ever since taking to a marching drum-styled biscuit tin at the age of 18 months and beating time along to the radio, Scott has had a passion for music and playing drums.

He grew up in North West London initially playing in church and with local big bands, picking up professional gigging experience when he joined the National Youth Jazz Orchestra. At sixteen he was NYJO’s principal drummer and a further six years spent with the band gave him some valuable early opportunities with notable highlights including a broadcast BBC Proms concert at the Royal Albert Hall, and recording an album of new music at Angel Studios.

Scott went on to study on the jazz undergraduate course at the Royal Academy of Music in London, where he was the recipient of the Humphrey Lyttelton Award in 2013 and a Yamaha Jazz Scholarship the following year upon graduating with a First Class honours degree. His time at college allowed him to forge many lasting musical relationships and form bands with colleagues that he still performs with today such as the Misha Mullov-Abbado Group, Tom Green Septet and Ralph Wyld’s ‘Mosaic’ - all playing original music by their respective band leaders. Along with many of these people and other friends across the London scene, Scott was also involved in the creation of the Patchwork Jazz Orchestra, a contemporary big band playing original compositions by its members.

Shortly after graduating, Scott began an involvement in West End theatre after he took over the drum chair on the UK tour of hit musical Wicked for six months in 2015. Since then he has performed regularly as a deputy for the long-running London production as well as a number of other shows in the West End. Scott was also an understudy on Close To You: Bacharach Reimagined during its West End run in 2015-2016, which gave him the rare experience of performing an entire show on stage as an actor-musician.

Over recent years, Scott has acquired a deeper interest in recording and production. Now with a fully equipped, purpose-built home studio, he is enjoying developing his skills for remote recording and has already worked on behalf of clients including Heineken and Marks and Spencer.
