Biography

Chi Yuen began playing the piano at the age of seven, and he enrolled in Chethamís School of Music in 2007 where he became a pupil of Simon Bottomley. During his time in Chethamís, Chi Yuen also received coaching from celebrated pianists such as Murray McLachlan and Peter Lawson.

He continued his studies in the Royal Northern College of Music, first with Stephen Savage at undergraduate level, and then Sally Ann Macleod, who had studied with Vlado Perlemuter, a distinguished interpreter of Chopin. Chi Yuen has a particular affinity with works of Chopin, a composer which endlessly fascinates and moves him. He had also received coaching from visiting artists such as Michel Beroff and Phillip Cassard.

Apart from his interests in performing, under the tutelage of Helen Krizos, Chi Yuen has developed a passion for paedagogy and enjoys immensely the responsibility of teaching and inspiring the next generation of pianists.

Chi Yuen has graduated from the Royal Northern College of Music and now works as a freelance musician and teacher, travelling between Manchester and Berlin.
