Biography
Hailing from Sydney, Australia, clarinettist Alexei Dupressoir has enjoyed a diverse musical career being in demand across Australia, Europe and internationally as a performer and educator. His musical journey has seen him perform in some of the most prestigious music halls of the world, including the Sydney Opera House, Concertgebouw, Berlin Konzerthaus and the Barbican to name a few. Outside of the concert halls, Alexei has also enjoyed crossing over into the Pop, Folk, Tango, Vaudevillian and Burlesque realms.
Alexei Dupressoir began his clarinet studies at the age of nine and then later attended the Sydney Conservatorium High School. He continued his tertiary studies at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music where his teachers were Francesco Celata, Peter Jenkin and Catherine McCorkill, completing a Bachelor of Music Degree with First Class Honours and a Master of Music Studies.
He has been a member of the Sydney Symphony Sinfonia, Australian Youth Orchestra, the Australian International Symphony Orchestra Institute and SBS Youth Orchestra. Alexei took part in the Australian Youth Orchestra's international Europe tour in 2013 and in 2014, Alexei was selected as the Clarinet Fellow with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra's Fellowship program.
Alexei has performed with the London, Sydney, Melbourne and Tasmanian Symphony Orchestras, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, the Australian Chamber Orchestra, the Aurora Orchestra, the Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra, the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra and Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra where he held a contract for Principal Bass Clarinet in 2017.
Outside of performing, Alexei is dedicated pedagogue who values musical education to the highest degree. He has worked with many schools throughout the Sydney region. Alexei has also enjoyed doing outreach educational work throughout rural Australia and had the honour to co-run the 'Multi-mode Musos' course for Camp Creative in Bellingen, Australia.
