Child Protection Course:
Completed Educare child protection training course. (more)
Keeping Children Safe in Music is the latest in the EduCare's series of distance learning courses on child protection. The training programme uses short films to show a variety of good and bad practice examples, which will be available to watch online. It will help anyone teaching music to children gain a better understanding of their child protection responsibilities, and avoid situations that could lead to accusations of misconduct.

Penelope Tedd G.L.C.M: I am an experienced and enthusiastic music teacher, teaching privately travelling to you and also online, and in a number of private schools. The lessons have a relaxed, friendly, yet professional atmosphere, tailored to the pupil's individual needs.

Please visit my website:

Travel to you is included in the price. I do not charge extra after a certain mileage. I travel out to the following places, and everywhere in-between:

Chichester, Bognor Regis, Littlehampton, Rustington, Angmering, Felpham, Pagham, Yapton, Barnham, Eastergate, Westergate, Fontwell, Walberton, Arundel, Petworth, West Chiltington, Storrington, Pulborough.

Over the years, I have taught people aged 5 to 93, from beginners to Grade 8 standard. Though many learn an instrument for pleasure or as a personal goal, a sizeable number of my pupils have gone on to study music in Higher Education, and some have gone on to successful careers in music/audio related industries.

Online Lessons: I offer online lessons using Skype. I have conducted hundreds of online lessons and have quality equipment. The response has been overwhelmingly positive. Whether the pupil uses a PC, laptop, tablet, or even a smart phone, the experience has been good.

I currently teach at the following private schools:
Dorset House School
Great Ballard School
Slindon College

Child Protection: Since I work in schools as well as privately, I am vetted/checked and trained annually for Child Protection. I take this very seriously, and strongly believe that such checks and training should be compulsory for all private tutors, which unfortunately it is not. The code of conduct gives parents peace of mind that their child is being taught in a friendly and safe environment.

CRB checked previously and DBS checked.

Exams: I am an experienced exam accompanist, and teach the Associated Board, Trinity, and London College of Music exams. Pupils take exams if they wish, but it is not compulsory. Some pupils fast track, sometimes even skipping a grade, whilst others work at a slower, steadier pace. Those that do not do exams often take them later on as their confidence and abilities develop.

I always keep pupils and parents informed of the level of progress whether exams are taken or not. When pupils take an exam, I try to attend to offer my support. This is at no extra cost, but I do charge £20 if a pupil needs me as an accompanist.

Over the years, I have performed at such venues as the Royal Festival Hall, The Queen Elizabeth Hall, Westminster Central Hall, and many others in a variety of orchestral, band, and choral roles. These days, I am totally committed to teaching full-time and consequently I will never 'disappear' to go on a tour or to perform a few gigs. This is especially crucial as exams approach or the pupil is preparing for a performance.

Special Needs: I have worked at Slindon College as a one to one music teacher for many years and am very experienced dealing with children with special needs such as Autistic Spectrum Disorder, Dyslexia, Dyscalcula, ADHD and ADD. Over the years I have seen pupils' confidence grow whilst learning an instrument, and a number of these pupils have gone on to study music in Higher Education.

I offer discounts for contiguous lessons (back to back), which makes it more affordable if you have more than one child/adult wanting lessons or a pupil learning more than one instrument. Fees can be paid weekly, half term, or full term. For cancellations, at least 24 hours notice is appreciated. As previously mentioned, the fee includes travel to you. I do not charge extra after a certain mileage.

Lessons are on a weekly basis in school term time. If pupils want lessons in the school holidays I am happy to accommodate this but probably at a different time and day.

Online Fees: Take 50p off the fees below:

Single session: £18.50
Double Session: £34
Triple Session: £49.50
Quadruple Session: £64.50
Holiday sessions are the same fees as above.

Please select the Testimonial tab for comments from a number of my pupils and pupil's parents, both past and present. Also, select the Media tab for short audio clips of my pupils playing - these were simply recorded using my phone.
